You've got to be patient & fast to capture a shot like this where this paper wasp decided it was "tea time". They are a voracious & important predator when it comes to insect pests that go after your garden. Give them their space, deter them from building a nest by your door or over your fav patio chair & you can coexist.
It's so fun to turn the velocity of the water in this mountain river into velvet. Shooting the same image with different shutter speeds, apertures etc will give different results. Colorado has abundant opportunities for a photographer that's for sure. Book a class & enjoy the world of photography.
This praying mantis was warming herself on the black surface of the tire. You can see how intricate the parts of her tiny body are as she struck this pose for me. Well, at least I think it's a female. I wasn't about to get any closer to find out for sure. I've heard they can actually give you a painful bite if they choose to. Yipes! This is when a zoom lens comes in very handy!
